the case for homemade tortillas

Just what makes a tortilla good? WRONG QUESTION. Just what makes a tortilla AMAZING? There you go. Tortillas aren’t just wheat/corn circles thrown on a grill, they are a way of life, and most ways of life require some TLC. Which of course stands for Tortilla. Love. Care.

History Of Tortillas: When you make a tortilla by hand you are making an ancient recipe that dates back 10,000 years before Christ. When the Spanish set sail for Meso-America they were anticipating finding gold, which they ended up finding little kernels of it. 

What Tortillas look like now: Tortillas hold the same shape, and that’s about it. If tortillas have more than 5 ingredients in it, you are cheating yourself. Filled with so many fillers, chemicals and general nastiness, this is why we make our tortillas in house and always will. 

Future of Tortillas: There are still some companies doing it right, stateside! Some of our favorites are as follows: VIVIR MODERN MEXICAN (of course), Tortilla Fresca Organic Uncooked Flour Tortillas, La Gloria Tortillas, Tortilla Land Flour Tortillas. These are just a few of the selections that we feel meet the flavor/structural integrity standards we live by.
